HISTORY
from Humble Beginnings
Two brothers with a dream
In 1959 Enrico Colussi and his brother, Giovanni Colussi started ‘Colussi Brothers’ and went on to become Colussi Engineering Pty Ltd in 1968. Some years later they identified a need for a better pump product in the pest control industry and engaged Lorri Tescari, an old engineer from the days of Maurlyn to create Nova Pumps. Lorri’s experience helped the brothers to create a robust and innovative pump fit for the service duty of the industry.
Powered by Honda
With their new Nova Pump product originally powered with Briggs & Stratton motors, eventually the brothers transitioned use Honda motors, somewhere in the 1980s. Every time the Japanese Honda Engineers came to Australia, they would come to visit the brothers with cameras in hand to see what they were doing with Honda’s motor technology.
Now Australian’s #1
Nova Pumps eventually took over 100% of the pest control industry for its simplicity and reliability. We still produce them today to the original patterns, refusing to cut corners on quality and materials.
Creating A Legacy
Our Foundation
In 1954 my father, Enrico Colussi and his brother, Giovanni Colussi, worked for an Australian Manufacturer of air compressors, Maurlyn Air Compressors. Some years later the owner, Mr Lorenzo Chiola sold the company to Olims Consolidated Limited, an investor who had an interest in owning the product and brand but not manufacturing. The manufacturing was put out to tender and my father and his brother won that tender. This started their venture as pump manufacturers.
In 1959 they started Colussi Brothers, what was to become Colussi Engineering Pty Ltd, in 1968. Some years later they saw an opportunity to create a better pump product in the pest control industry. With the help of Lorri Tescari, an old engineer from Maurlyn, the brothers created Nova Pumps. Nova Pumps grew to supply 100% of the pest control industry for its simplicity and reliability. We still produce them today to the original engineering standards. Originally Nova Pumps products were powered with Briggs & Stratton motors but went on to use Honda motors instead somewhere in the 1980s. Whenever Japanese Honda Engineers would come to Australia, they would come to visit the brothers with cameras in hand to observe and learn.
